Songiri Fort is a trekking destination located in a relatively rural and less-developed area. As such, you won’t find traditional restaurants or cafes right at the base of the fort or at the start of the trek. The food options are primarily located in the nearby towns and villages, with some very basic food stalls or a “dhaba” (a roadside eatery) occasionally available.

Here’s what you can expect for places to eat near Songiri Fort:

  • Base Village Food: The base village for the Songiri Fort trek is often cited as Avalas or Palasdhari. In these villages, you may find small, local shops selling snacks like biscuits, chips, and bottled water. Some villagers may offer to provide a simple, home-cooked meal (a “thali” with chapati, vegetables, and dal) for trekkers, but this should be arranged in advance, often through a local guide. This is a very authentic and recommended way to experience local cuisine.

  • Dhabas and Small Eateries: As you get closer to the main Karjat-Khopoli road, you will find more options. You can look for small dhabas and family restaurants. These places offer basic, but often delicious, Maharashtrian or North Indian food. Some well-known names in the broader area of Karjat include Visawa Family Restaurant and Sattu Vadapav Centre.
  • Resort Restaurants: If you are staying at one of the resorts mentioned earlier, such as The Forest Club Resort or Radisson Blu, they will have their own in-house restaurants with a variety of cuisines. These are a good option for a more comfortable and predictable meal.
  • Packed Lunch: For the trek itself, it is highly recommended to carry your own food and water. Treks to Songiri Fort can take several hours, and there are no food vendors on the trail or at the fort itself. Pack easy-to-carry items like energy bars, fruits, sandwiches, and plenty of water.

Tip: If you are part of an organized trek group, food (typically a simple breakfast and lunch) is often included in the package and is usually served at the base village before and after the trek.

Nice and quiet fort. The trek is easy to moderate. Some rocky patches are there so one should be careful. The fort is located near Palasdhari station and one has to come by walking only to the base. The routes during the trek are confusing so it’s better to go in groups. Even on weekends it is very less crowded & one can peacefully enjoy the view from top. The fort doesn’t have a single stall/shop even at the base and in between the trek. Therefore it is highly recommended that to carry as much water & enough food to avoid any problem. There isn’t a single shop on the station too. Kindly keep these things in mind while packing your bags. The trek is almost 1.5 hr from the base to the top with some great views of nature. Its better to go here when there is breeze & rain otherwise you’ll sweat a lot even in monsoon. Its a best option if you want a less crowded and calm place to trek
trek.

A good hike with very less expense. Just get down at plasdari station and start walking. There are two routes to reach the top. One is from railway track and another is from nevali village. Both are easy but the one from nevali village is marked and the railway track route is a bit confusing as there is no marking and many other paths divert in between. The fort is small in area with 2 water cisterns at the top. From top, we can see Dhak bahiri mountain, Rajmachi, Khopoli, Irshalgad, Prabalgad, Sondai and Matheran. Do carry your food with you as there is no hotel or stall at palasdari or nevali.

  • Be Prepared for a Challenge: While considered a moderate trek, it does require a reasonable level of fitness and endurance.
  • Safety First: Be mindful of your surroundings, especially on slippery sections. Do not wander off the main trail.
