The Battle of Pawankhind:

This battle took place on July 13, 1660, near Vishalgad Fort.
Baji Prabhu Deshpande and his Maratha warriors held off the larger Bijapur forces, delaying them long enough for Shivaji Maharaj to escape.
The pass was later renamed “Pawankhind” (meaning “holy pass”) in honor of the sacrifice made by the Maratha soldiers.

पावनखिंडची लढाई:

ही लढाई १३ जुलै १६६० रोजी विशाळगड किल्ल्याजवळ झाली.

बाजी प्रभू देशपांडे आणि त्यांच्या मराठा योद्ध्यांनी मोठ्या विजापूर सैन्याला रोखले, ज्यामुळे शिवाजी महाराजांना पळून जाण्यास बराच वेळ लागला.

मराठा सैनिकांनी दिलेल्या बलिदानाच्या सन्मानार्थ नंतर या खिंडीचे नाव “पवनखिंड” (म्हणजे “पवित्र खिंड”) असे ठेवण्यात आले.

Morning (Panhala & Departure):

  • 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM: Breakfast & Panhala Exploration (Optional but Recommended)
    • Start your day with breakfast at your accommodation in Panhala or a local eatery.
    • If you haven’t already, take a quick walk around Panhala Fort. You can visit important points like the Teen Darwaza, Ambarkhana, and Sajja Kothi. This will help set the historical context for your trip to Pawankhind.
  • 8:30 AM – 8:45 AM: Check-out & Depart from Panhala
    • Complete your check-out formalities and begin your drive towards Pawankhind. The journey is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Mid-Morning (Travel & Arrival at Pawankhind):

  • 8:45 AM – 10:00 AM: Scenic Drive to Pawankhind

  • 10:00 AM – 10:15 AM: Arrival at Pawankhind & Initial Orientation

Late Morning/Early Afternoon (Pawankhind Exploration):

  • 10:15 AM – 1:00 PM: Explore Pawankhind Memorial & Surroundings
