Devkund Waterfall is a secluded waterfall in the forests of Bhira, Maharashtra, India:
Location: In the Raigad district, near the Bhira dam
Features: A plunge waterfall with clear blue-green water that cascades into a pond
Known for: A popular picnic spot, and considered sacred by locals
Mythology: Also known as the “Bathing Pond of Gods”, locals believe utensils used to emerge from the pond during auspicious ceremonies
Trek: A moderate, 4-hour trek of about 5-6 km one way through dense forest, rivers, hamlets, and valleys
How to get there: Take a local bus or hire a taxi from Khopoli railway station, which is well-connected to Mumbai and Pune
What to bring: Food, walking shoes, and mosquito repellent
What to do: Take a dip in the water and take lots of photos
What to note: The trek route can be muddy and rocky, and crosses streams and open fields. In monsoon, the trek route can be filled with water and flash floods can occur. Please don’t litter in the forest.
