Gadgada (also known as Ghargad) fort is a trekking destination in the Sahyadri mountains near Ghoti, Maharashtra. It’s a relatively easy trek, taking about an hour from the base village, Gadgad Sangvi, to reach the fort entrance. The trek is characterized by a narrow, bush-covered path with no trees on the route.

Gadgada Sangvi is a village in Igatpuri taluka, Nashik district, Maharashtra, India. It’s known for its proximity to Gadgada (Ghargad) Fort. The village serves as a base for trekking to the fort and is located about 18 km from Nashik city
Behind the village of “Gadgad Sangvi”, which is 18 km from Nashik, there is a mountain range. The locals know this mountain range as the Amboli Mountains. Three peaks are seen rising in this mountain range. The peak on the right is known as ‘Amboli’ and the peak on the left is known as ‘Aghori’. The peak between these two peaks is ‘Gadgad Fort’. However, to climb this fort, one has to use mountaineering techniques. Considering the location of the fort, it must have been used mainly for trekking.
Ways to reach the fort
On the Mumbai – Nashik highway, there is a fork going to Vaitarna, 163 km from Mumbai (16 km from Ghoti) and 18 km from Nashik. 2 km from this fork is the village of “Vadivere”. After leaving the village, there is a roundabout. From this roundabout, the right-hand road goes to the village at the foot of the fort, “Gadgad Sangvi”, 4 km above. At the beginning of this road, there is an arch with the words ‘Hanuman and Bhavani Temple, Amboli Mountain Area, Gadgad Sangvi’ written on it. There are ST buses every hour from Nashik to Vadivire village, but there is no ST to Gadgad Sangvi village. You have to get off at Vadivire and walk 4 km to reach Gadgad Sangvi village. You can reach Gadgad Sangvi village by private vehicle.
Accommodation
The school padvi in Gadgad Sangvi village can accommodate 10 people. The Hanuman temple, which is half the height of the fort, can accommodate 10 people.
Food facilities
You can arrange your own food or the Mumbai-Nashik highway is 6 km away from Gadgad Sangvi village, where there are many dhabas.
Water facilities
1) Potable water is available in the tank near the entrance to the fort for 12 months. 2) The well near the Hanuman temple has water for twelve months.
- The nearest town is Ghoti, which is 129 km from Mumbai.

Gadgad Sangvi, the base village, is 16 km from Ghoti. Good hotels are available in Ghoti.

From the Mumbai-Agra highway, take the Wadvihire Phata, which is about 7 km from the fort’s base.
