This beauty of Mother Nature; located approx 640m above sea level; is situated in the Mulshi district of Maharashtra. It is from here that River Kundalika (famous for rafting) originates. During the trek one comes across several beautiful streams\, varied flora and wonderful views of the valley apart from the fresh natural air. Karnala is easy trek and one day trekking spot. Karanala Fort also famous as Karnala Bird Sanctuary. Currently it is protected by forest department of Maharashtra. Karnala fort actually consists of two forts one at a higher level and other lower. At the centre of the higher level is a 125 feet high basalt pillar. It is also called Pandu’s tower. This structure was used as watchtower when the fort was occupied however now it is in a ruined condition. The presence of bee hives also makes it difficult to climb and have resulted in at least one casualty in recent times.
