SUMMARY:TraWell Amigos:: Panhala to Pawankhind- The Historical Trail 2025 - 11 July 2025
DESCRIPTION:Lets TraWell Amigos! \nJoin us for an historic trek from Panhala to Pawankhind\, Kolhapur and pay tribute to the great Maratha warrior Baji Prabhu Deshpande\, who sacrificed his life for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on 13th July 1660. \n? Event Date: 12-13 July 2025 \n? Event Charges:₹1500 per head (ex Panhala)₹3100 per head (ex Pune by Private Vehicle)₹3600 per head (ex Mumbai by Express Train with SL Class) \n? Endurance level: Very high? Last date for registration: 01 July 2025? Approx. trek kms: 51 kms \n? History:Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was under siege of Siddi Johar on Panhala fort from 2nd March 1660. The siege lasted long and all food stocks had finished and made things difficult for Shivaji Maharaj. It was impossible to defeat the 30000 soldiered troop of Siddi. Shivaji Maharaj with some 600 mavalas decided to escape to Vishalgad\, 65 kms away. It was Ashadi Pournima\, with heavy rains falling. Chatrapati Shivaji Raje informed Siddi that he would surrender hence Siddi troops were little careless. \nTaking advantage Shivaji Maharaj escaped from Panhala. He wasn’t safe till he reached Vishalgad. Some how Siddi’s troops spotted Shivaji Raje’s escape\, he immediately sent horsed troops behind him and they got hold of Shivaji\, who was later brought to Siddi’s camp. But it was Raja Shivaji’s game plan; person whom they had caught was not Shivaji Raje\, but Siva Kashid Nhavi who was immediately killed. Siddi somehow came to know that Shivaji Maharaj was on his way to Vishalgad\, and so sent troops behind him. Shivaji Raje knew that Siddi’s troops were following him. Baji Prabhu\, Chatrapati Shivaji’s loyal sardar decided to stay in Ghod Khind with 300 mavalas\, a col were mountain ridges near Vishalgad unite and was the only way to Vishalgad then. Baji Prabhu with his 300 mavalas had guerilla warfare at Ghodkhind and held the Siddis troops there. They fought bravely till their death. It was only after Baji heard the canon fire indicating safe reach of Shivaji Maharaj at Vishalgad\, he gave his life. It was 21 hour continuous journey from Panhala to Vishalgad. Story didn’t end here; Chatrapati Shivaji Raje had to fight his way to Vishalgad. \nVishalgad is a fort difficult to conquer\, difficult to lay siege. Also even if siege was laid\, one would have enough time to escape to Konkan. Siddi was building siege on Vishalgad\, but Shivaji Raje with his diplomatic trick made Adil Shah bring back Siddi Johar. \n? SUMMARY:TraWell Amigos:: Panhala to Pawankhind- The Historical Trail 2025 - 15 August 2025
\n? One Day Treks Near Pune\nHere are some of the most popular and rewarding one-day treks\, categorized by difficulty: \n\nEasy: \n\nSinhagad Fort: A classic. You can drive most of the way up and then climb the final stretch of steps. The view of the Aamby Valley and the surrounding lakes is stunning.\nTikona Fort: A small but sharp fort near Kamshet. The climb is short and takes you to the summit with panoramic views of Pawna Lake.\n\n\nModerate: \n\nLohagad Fort: One of the most popular treks. The climb is well-defined with stone steps. The highlight is the ‘Vinchu Kata’ (Scorpion’s Tail) – a unique fortification at the end.\nVisapur Fort: The twin of Lohagad\, but larger and more challenging. It involves walking through dense forest and some rock patches. The ruins and a massive carving of Hanuman are the main attractions.\nRajmachi Fort (Udhewadi): Can be done as a long one-day trek from Lonavala/Karjat side\, but is more enjoyable as an overnight trip. The route passes through beautiful forest and offers a view of the Shirota Lake.\n\n\nChallenging: \n\nRajgad Fort: The capital of Shivaji Maharaj’s empire. It’s a massive fort with multiple routes. The ‘Chor Darwaja’ route is a thrilling but difficult climb. It’s a full-day\, strenuous trek.\nTung Fort: A very steep but short climb. It’s shaped like a conical peak and offers a thrilling\, exposed ridge walk near the top. Not for beginners or those with a fear of heights.\n\n\n\n2. Andharban Trek\nAndharban\, which literally means “Dark Forest\,” is a unique and breathtaking experience. \n\n\nWhat it is: A dense forest trail that starts from a village near Pimpri and descends all the way to the Kundalika Valley in Tamhini Ghat.\nExperience: You walk on a ridge with the valley on one side and a thick\, evergreen forest on the other. The trail is mostly shaded\, hence the name. It’s famous for its streams\, waterfalls (in monsoon)\, and the constant sound of birds.\nDifficulty: Moderate. It’s a long descent (around 13 km)\, which can be tough on the knees\, but the path itself is not very technical.\nBest Time to Visit: Monsoon (June to September) is the absolute best time when the forest is lush green and full of life. Post-monsoon (October to February) is also great for clear views.\nDuration: It’s a one-day trek\, but it’s a long one\, starting early in the morning and ending by late evening.\n\n\n\n5. Jungle Trek Near Pune\n\nAndharban: This is the quintessential jungle trek near Pune.\nBhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary: The trek to Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga passes through a dense forest which is part of a wildlife sanctuary. You might spot the Giant Indian Squirrel (Shekru)\, various birds\, and other fauna. The Gupt Bhimashankar route is particularly beautiful and jungle-heavy.\nRajmachi: The trail from Kondivade village to Rajmachi is a beautiful jungle walk\, especially in the monsoon.\nMadhe Ghat: A lesser-known gem\, this trail near the backwaters of Varasgaon Dam takes you through dense forests and ends at a cliff with a spectacular view of the Konkan region.\n\n\n\n6. Trekking Groups in Pune for Beginners\nAll the groups mentioned above (Trek Mates\, Trekdi\, Backpack Outdoors) are excellent for beginners. They clearly label their treks by difficulty level. \n\nHow to identify a beginner-friendly trek: \n\nLook for tags like “Easy\,” “Beginner Friendly\,” or “Grade 1.”\nChoose forts like Sinhagad\, Korigad\, or Lohagad for your first few treks. The paths are well-defined and not too steep.\nRead the description carefully. If it mentions rock climbing\, rappelling\, or very steep ascents\, avoid it for your first time.\n\n\n\n7. Pune Trekking WhatsApp Group\nFor privacy and safety reasons\, I cannot provide direct links to private WhatsApp groups. However\, here is how you can easily find and join them: \n\n\nJoin a Trek: The easiest way is to go on a trek with any of the groups mentioned above. At the end of the trek\, they will add you to their WhatsApp group for future updates.\nCheck their Social Media: Many groups have a “Join our WhatsApp Broadcast” link on their Instagram bio or Facebook page. This is a one-way communication channel where they broadcast updates about upcoming treks.\nAsk in Public Forums: Join public Facebook groups like “Pune Trekkers Community” or similar and ask if anyone can invite you to a trekking group. Members are usually very helpful.\n\n\n\n8. Easy Treks Near Pune\nHere is a consolidated list of the best easy treks to get you started: \n\n\nSinhagad Fort: Minimal trekking\, more of a historical visit.\nKorigad Fort: A simple 1-2 hour climb to a beautiful plateau.\nTikona Fort: A short and sweet climb with great views.\nLohagad Fort: Well-paved path\, perfect for a first-time fort trekker.\nPanshet Backwaters Trail: Not a fort\, but a beautiful and easy walk along the backwaters of Panshet dam.\n\n\nEnjoy your trekking adventures around Pune!
