शिवाच्या तीन भव्य मूर्ती आपल्याला पहायला मिळतात. भारतातील प्रमुख ऐतिहासिक आणि महत्वांच्या पर्यटन स्थळांपैकी एक असलेल्या या भव्य लेण्या दोन वेगवेगळ्या धर्मांमध्ये विभागल्या गेल्या आहेत. या लेण्यांच्या एका भागात हिंदू धर्माशी जोडल्या गेलेल्या लेण्या असून अन्य भागात बौद्ध धर्माशी संबंधित लेण्या आढळतात. या घारापुरी लेण्यांचे ऐतिहासिक महत्व लक्षात घेऊन १९८७ साली युनेस्कोने जागतिक वारसा स्थळांच्या यादीत या लेण्यांची नोंद केली आहे.एलिफंटा लेण्यांच्या निर्मितीचा काळ हा साधारण इसवी सन ९०० ते १३०० च्या दरम्यान असावा असा अंदाज आहे. एका अखंड पाषाणात ह्या लेणी कोरण्यात आल्या आहेत. ज्याकाळी पाश्चात्त्य देशांमध्ये मानवी वसाहतीचा मागमूससुद्धा नव्हता त्याकाळी आपल्या भारतीय पूर्वजांनी इतक्या दुर्गम भागात इतक्या अफाट कलाकृती निर्माण केल्या\, याला कुठेच तोड नाही. या गावाचे प्राचीन नाव श्रीपुरी असे होते. कोकणातल्या मौर्य वंशाची घारापुरी ही राजधानी असावी. त्यानंतर चालुक्य\, राष्ट्रकूट \, यादवनी मोगल यांनी तिथे क्रमाने आपली सत्ता प्रस्थापित केली. सोळाव्या शतकाच्या पूर्वार्धात हे बेट पोर्तुगीजांच्या ताब्यात गेले. शिवाजी महाराजांच्या काळात ते मराठ्यांनी हस्तगत केले आणि सन १७७४ मध्ये त्यावर इंग्रजांनी आपले प्रभुत्व स्थापले. या बेटावरील डोंगरात पाच लेणी खोदलेल्या आहेत. येथील शिल्पकाम शैव संप्रदायाचे आहे. त्यात अनेक वेचक\, निवडक शिवकथा समूर्त झालेल्या दिसतात. या कथांपैकी अतिशय वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण अशी शिव-पार्वती विवाह\, गंगावतरण\, तांडवनृत्य\, अंधकासुर वध इ. दृश्ये अतिशय रमणीय असून\, साक्षात शिवाचे जीवनच थोडक्यात आपल्यापुढे साकार करतात. \nकार्यक्रमाचा तपशील :-रविवार २७ ऑक्टोबर २०२४ सकाळी ७:३० वाजे पर्यंत गेटवे ऑफ इंडिया येथे पोहचणे. नंतर बोटीने घारापुरी बेटाकडे प्रवास सुरू. सकाळचा नाश्ता बोटीत करणे (आपण सोबत आणलेला). अंदाजे ९:३०/१०वा. बेटावर पोहचल्यावर चहापान\, नंतर अंदाजे १०० पायऱ्या चढुन दोन मोठ्या तोफा पाहून पुढे लेणी पाहायला सुरुवात. संबंधीत माहिती घेऊन छायाचित्रे काढून परत उतरण्यास सुरुवात. अंदाजे २ तासांनी ठरलेल्या ठिकाणी जेवण करून पायथ्याशी आगमन आणि बोटीने गेटवेच्या दिशेने रवाना. \nट्रेक फी : संपूर्ण खर्च रु. ७००/- (रुपये सातशे फक्त) प्रती व्यक्ती (गेटवे ते गेटवे प्रवास जेवण\,
