The fort was built during the reign of the Maratha Empire in the 17th century and was used as a strategic location for keeping watch over the surrounding areas. \nThe fort has seen many battles and was captured by various rulers throughout history. It was also used as a place of refuge by the Maratha ruler\, Shivaji Maharaj\, during his campaigns against the Mughals. \nIn addition to its historical significance\, Malangad is also known for its religious significance.
