SUMMARY:Bhairavgad Trek with Rappelling - Batch 1 - 25 October 2024
DESCRIPTION:A thrilling trek to the Bhairavgad\, near Moroshi\, Maharashtra. A dyke structure with no remains on the fort with a couple of water cisterns on the path. Much of the history is unknown about the fort but it appears to be a water tower for the trade routes. The structure has rock-cut steps which are broken at a few places with steep valley exposure. From the summit\, we could see Naneghat\, Harishchandragad Konkan Kada\, taramati\, balekilla\, and a few more mountains. \nIn 2012\, SCI has rebolted the traditional trekking route on the east side where many rock-cut steps were ruined along with the west-facing rock climbing route. \nWe intend to start the trek once we reach Moroshi and reach the base of the bhairavgad dyke structure by early morning\, set up a fixed line on the bolts from the base to the summit\, give a technical briefing and start the climb till the summit traversing through the rock-cut steps\, there will be a climb at one overhang rock patch. Once we reach the summit we get a chance to witness the beautiful Sahyadri ranges. Later we descend through the same route and rappel down from the overhang patch to the base of the structure. Rajgad means King of all forts. Located south-west 40 Kms from Pune. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj spent a great deal of his time on this Fort close to 25 years. Rajgad is famous for its construction layout. The fort can be divided into four different parts based on geographical terrain and fortification. This fort is believed to be ancient and almost 2500 years old.This fort has only few ruins and remains on the top.There are two big caves on the top in which one cave is a shrine of Lord Bhairavnath and another cave is used for residence purpose for trekkers and visitors There are many water tanks on the top but only one tank is having water suitable for drinking The idol in cave is very good carved\, painted and this shrine is well maintained by the villagers of Shirpunje. \nGhanchakkar is a complicated hill\, with many ridges &walls on all the sides. May be it derives its peculiar name from its shape. It is a place full of crystals\, one can also find some beautiful stones. The hill stands on the range coming from Kathra towards Wilson dam.
