The caves up there can shelter dozens of trekkers at a time. Kalsubai peak and the Konkan-Kada are visible from here\, along with several waterfalls! The view of lakes from atop is mesmerizing. \nRatangad is a fort in Ratan Wadi\, Maharashtra\, India\, overlooking the locale of Bhandardara\, one of the oldest artificial catchment areas. The fort is about 2000 years old. Ratangad has a natural rock peak with a cavity in it at the top which is called ‘Nedhe’ or ‘Eye of the Needle’. The fort has four gates Ganesh\, Hanuman\, Konkan and Trimbak. Rantangad Fort was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle. Rantangad Fort is also known as Jewels of fort. Rantangad Fort is on the boundary of Ahmadnagar and Thane districts. The fort is origin for the river Pravara/Amrutvahini. The Bhandardara dam (arthar dam) is built on this river. From the top of the fort neighboring forts like Alang\, kulang\, Madan gad\, Harishchandragad\, Patta are seen easily. The view of entire Bhandardara dam( Lake Arthur) gives sheer pleasure. There are many rock cut water cisterns on the fort. Some of them store potable water throughout the year. There is a natural hole in the mountain top probably caused by wind erosion. The fort is origin for the river Pravara/Amrutvahini. The Bhandardara dam (arthar dam) is built on this river. DESCRIPTION:Monsoon Trek Kalsubai | Mumbai Mountain Hikers \nKalsubai peak height is 1646 meter (5400 feet). Kalsubai is Highest peak of Western Ghat/Sahayadri.  It is also known as Everest of Maharashtra. Various peak are situated around Kalsubai like the north of the mountain range forts such as Ramsej\, Harihargad\, Brahmagiri\, Anjaneri\, Ghargad\, Bahula\, Tringalwadi\, Kavnai can be seen. To the east one can spot Aundha\, Vishramgad\, Bitangad\, to the west Alang\, Madangad\, Kulang\, Ratangad (south west) and to the south Pabhargad\, Ghanchakkar\, Harishchandragad can be seen. \nThe peak attracts a large number of trekkers and devotees determined to scale the mountain. To reach the summit there are well designated trekking routes. The trek route is a mix of easy to ascend slopes as well as treacherous rocky outcrops overlooking the valley below. The government has built iron ladders along the vertical hill slopes.
