SUMMARY:Magical Meghalaya & Kaziranga National Park - 15 April 2023
DESCRIPTION:Magical Meghalaya & Kaziranga National Park  (8Days/7Nights)   \nMeghalaya means the ‘abode of the clouds’ in Sanskrit\, and it stands up to its name. Rolling clouds\, verdant undulating hills\, a number of waterfalls and natural springs\, all of which make it a personification of natural beauty. It is also known as the Scotland of the East. This state has abundant rainfall and sunshine around the year and is considered to be one of the richest botanical habitats in Asia. \nItinerary: –  Day 1 (Saturday): Arrival Guwahati – Kaziranga National Park Jungle safari  (Appx 185Kms – 4Hrs 30Mints)  Flight from Pune to Guwahati. Depart for Kaziranga\, On the way to have breakfast. Reach  Kaziranga by afternoon. Post lunch\, enjoy the amazing Jungle safari in Jeep. Evening free at leisure. Overnight stay at Kaziranga. (Breakfast & Dinner)   \nDay 2(Sunday): Kaziranga Morning Safari – Umiam lake – Elephanta waterfalls –  Shillong (Appx 250Kms – 6Hrs)  Enjoy morning safari in Kaziranga on Elephant. Post breakfast travel to Shillong. On route  visit scenic Umiam Lake. It is a tranquil lake at the entrance of Shillong town and a  mesmerizing man-made reservoir. We also get an amazing panoramic view point of Umiam  lake on route to Shillong. Later visit Elephanta waterfalls (Shillong). The name originated  in the British era when the Englishmen spotted a giant rock that looked like an elephant near  the fall. This rock was destroyed in 1897 due to an earthquake. The Elephant Falls are a  two-tier waterfall in Shillong. Check in to the hotel. Overnight at Shillong. (Breakfast & Dinner)   \nDay 3: (Monday): Shillong City Tour – Drive to Cherrapunji (Appx 80Kms  – 3Hrs 30Mints)  Post breakfast enjoy Shillong city tour: Visit Wards Lake\, Don Bosco Museum\, Laitlum canyon. Drive to Cherrapunji\, Evening visit the local market. Overnight stay at  Cherrapunji. (Breakfast & Dinner)  \nDay 4 (Tuesday): Double Decker root bridge & Single decker root bridge – Nongriat  (Appx 40Kms – 2Hrs) (Walking day today)  Early breakfast\, visit Double decker root bridge which is also known as living root bridge. The trek is approx. 3000 steps one side. It is believed that some of the root  bridges are over five hundred years old. Set in the dense forests of Meghalaya\, this iconic  bridge is made of 2 tree root entanglements. Enroute visit Single decker root bridge. If you  want to go further\, to the Rainbow waterfall\, it will take another 1-2 hours. (If time permits).  Return to the hotel. Overnight at Cherrapunji (Breakfast & Dinner) (We will have to carry  our pack lunch today.)   \nDay 5: (Wednesday): Nohkalikai waterfall – Seven Sister waterfall Viewpoint –  Mawsmai Cave (Appx 25Kms – 1Hr)  Post breakfast\, we begin our day with a visit to the Nohkalikai waterfall. It is one of the tallest  plunge waterfalls in India. While you have probably seen many rivers making beautiful leaps  down a cliff or steep slope\, nothing compares to Nohkalikai Falls. The enticing beauty of the  falls\, as well as its verdant surroundings\, makes it a must-visit. Later enjoy the spectacular View  of The Seven sisters waterfalls. It is also known as Nohsngithiang Falls\, lies in Cherrapunji  in the East Khasi Hills district. The seven segments of the waterfalls symbolize the seven  sister states in the northeast\, namely Assam\, Arunachal Pradesh\, Manipur\, Nagaland\, Tripura\,  Mizoram\, and Meghalaya. Proceed further to visit Mawsmai Cave\, the cave is also famous  for its fossils. Mawsmai cave is quite long\, only up to 150 m is open for visitors to visit. This  is a cave for us but shelter to various flora and fauna. Return to the hotel for dinner.  Overnight at Cherrapunji. (Breakfast & Dinner)  \nDay 6: (Thursday): Dainthlen waterfall viewpoint – Wei sawdong waterfall – Mawlynnong  Village – Dawki border (Appx 135Kms – 5Hrs 30Mints)  After an early breakfast visit The Dainthlen Fall\, it  is a straight drop of around 80 meters. The  viewpoint is on either side of the falls so you can  see its natural splendor from up close behind the  safety of a railing. From wandering cows to rare  birds\, there are many surprises in store as you  find your way along the gentle grassy rises and  dips\, punctuated by little hills and streams. Later  visit the famous Wei Sawdong Falls\, which is a  three-tiered waterfall. When you get its first  aerial view\, you will be startled for a moment to  see its pure blue colour\, form and tranquility. All  you can hear in this area is the sound of the water  falling down from the 3 levels. Proceed further to  enjoy panoramic view point of Laitsohpliah waterfall followed by Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point. Enroot visit Mawlynoong village famous for having been dubbed Asia’s cleanest village. The magazine discovers India declared  the village as the cleanest in Asia in 2003 and the cleanest in India 2005. Later visit a strange  natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another small rock. Proceed further to visit  Dawki Located in the Jaintia Hills\, the Dawki-Tamabil border crossing between India and  Bangladesh border. Proceed for dinner at Shnongpdeng. Overnight at Shnongpdeng campsite / home stay. (Breakfast & Dinner)   \nDay 7: (Friday): Shnongpdeng(Watersports activity) – Krang Shuri waterfall – Shillong (Appx 120Kms – 4Hrs)  After breakfast get ready to enjoy all watersports activities at Shnongpdeng. Activities like boating\, kayaking\, zipline\, snorkeling\, cliff jumping and many more in the morning. Later visit Krang Shuri waterfall which is Nestled amidst the mountains of Jaintia Hill district\, Krang Suri Waterfalls is one of the most stunning natural attractions and then drive towards Shillong. Dinner at the restaurant/hotel. Overnight at Shillong. (Breakfast & Dinner)  \nDay 8: (Saturday): Shillong – Mawphlang Sacred Grove – Guwahati sightseeing – Fly  back home (Appx 155Kms – 4Hrs 30Mints)  After early Breakfast\, visit Mawphlang Sacred Grove\, one of the biggest Sacred Groves in  Meghalaya. It is a well-preserved forest by the local community. Nothing can be taken out from  the forest as this is being protected by the local deities. An untouched forest that is the soul of  Khasi culture.  Drive to Guwahati and in the evening enjoy the Boat Ride & Cruise with dinner on the  Brahmaputra River. The idol is right trunked which has commanding view of Suvarndurga Fort and Arabian Sea. \nKanakdurg is approached through flight of few steps. (1 Min) The fort has few water tanks\, two bastions one at each end and a light house on elevated ground. \nBankot: Bankot is a square shaped fort. This was the first residency of the British Raj in Southern Konkan. This is one rarely visited fort. The main entrance (Mahadarwaja) of the fort has a well sculpted arch and carvings.
