DESCRIPTION:Thanale Caves or Nadsur Caves is a group of 23 Buddhist Caves located 72 km from Mumbai at Thanale Village\, Taluka Sudhagad in Raigad\, 18 km from Pali. \nThese caves belong to the first century B.C. It has two Chaityas\, two Stupas and the rest are Viharas. These caves are some of the most ancient rock-cut caves not only in Maharashtra but all of India. They were located at a complex site on the ancient trade route of Chaul. The earliest caves were probably excavated between 70 and 50 BC\, according to palaeographic evidence. \nThe caves have two notable inscriptions\, showing the names of donors. These Ancient rock-cut Buddhist caves are located in a beautiful mountainous site. The most frequently used path starts in Thanale village and goes through dense forest\, along waterfalls and mountain scenery. Geographically Ratangad is on the banks of Bhandardara lake in Ahmednagar district at a height of 4255 feet above sea level. With views of lake and highest mountains in Sahyadri looks very much lost in time.A 1000 years old temple of Lord Shiva\, the Amruteshwar Temple at Ratanwadi\, is an absolute paragon of high class architecture of our ancestors\, is at the base of this fort. Ratangad has still the remains of fortress with bastions and stone walls. Caves on the top is cut from the rock face and can easily accommodate 25 people at a time. Water systems are usually filled with water throughout the year and trekkers use them as water source. Eastern side of the fort has some fortification left; one can see Rani Mahal here. From the southern side on can see Katrabai and Ajoba fort very close. This side has also some fortification left\, but most of it is damaged. Climbing up on the northern side\, one can see natural orifice (hole in rock\, locally called nedhe) in the rock face\, mostly made by wind. Strong winds can be experienced at this orifice. Rajgad means King of all forts. Located south-west 40 Kms from Pune. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj spent a great deal of his time on this Fort close to 25 years. Rajgad is famous for its construction layout. The fort can be divided into four different parts based on geographical terrain and fortification. There are three sub-plateaux (Machee) namely Padmavati Machee\, Suvela Machee\, and Sanjevani Machee\, and at the center is the Ballekilla. \nTorna :-Torna fort previously known as Prachandagad\, the first fort captured by ShivajiMaharaj at the young age of 16\, Torna became the most glorious chapter in the history of Shivaji’s conquests. When Shivaji Maharaj took over this fort from Adil Shah (Sultan of Vijapur) this fort did not had too much construction on it. After capturing this fort\, Shivaji Maharaj started to construct some buildings on the forts and fortification for the fort. While construction ShivajiMaharaj also found a treasure on the fort! Assuming this to be a good omen\, he utilised this money on construction of this fort and the fort “Rajgad”.
