DESCRIPTION:Peth cha killa also known as Kothaligad is a small fort near Karjat. Although the fort is small it was an important military station during historic times. The fort rose to glory during Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s reign. Many battles have been fought on the fort and the control of the fort kept moving between Maratha Army and Mughals. The fort was inhibited until 1862.The fort can be approached by a trek from a village known as Ambivali situated some 30 kms from Karjat. And the trek lasts for about two hours. The fort has some caves and water cisterns along with some fortification and couple of entrances. There is a staircase carved in the rock which takes us to the top of the pinnacle.
