It is also known as Everest of Maharashtra. DESCRIPTION:Monsoon Trek Ratangad Fort | Mumbai Mountain Hikers \nRantangad Fort is located in Ahamadnagar district. Rantangad Fort base village is Ratanwadi. Rantangad Fort is about 400 years old. Rantangad Fort was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle. Rantangad Fort is also known as Jewels of fort. Rantangad Fort is on the boundary of Ahmadnagar and Thane districts. The fort is origin for the river Pravara/Amrutvahini. The Bhandardara dam (arthar dam) is built on this river. From the top of the fort neighboring forts like Alang\, kulang\, Madan gad\, Harishchandragad\, Patta are seen easily. The view of entire Bhandardara dam( Lake Arthur) gives sheer pleasure. There are many rock cut water cisterns on the fort. Some of them store potable water throughout the year. There is a natural hole in the mountain top probably caused by wind erosion. The picturesque Fort is located near the village of Visapur and was built as a twin fort to the famous Lohagad fort is of its kind experience for thrill-seekers and trek enthusiasts. This trek is a perfect escape away from the crowded cities into the wilderness and mountains that keep calling you again and again.   \nIt was Built in the year 1713-1720 CE by Balaji Peshwa\, The first Peshwa of the Maratha Empire it was built much later than the famous Lohagad fort but at a hill much above the Lohagad Fort. This fort was not much accessed and hence till today it has some remains of the ancient architecture and Peshwa empire ruins that attract history buffs every year.   \nThe fort has a huge carving of Lord Hanuman establishing that he was The Deity of the kingdom but the fort couldn’t be intact since there were attacks on it by neighboring villages in order to expand their kingdom. The Britishers also attacked the Lohagad fort by placing cannons at the Visapur Fort thus conquering both the forts in 1800 AD.
