Shree Malangad Balekilla climb & rappelling

The climb to the top of Shree Malangad can be challenging, and it is recommended for experienced hikers in Sahyadris. To reach the top we need to cross the thrilling pipe section and has rocky terrain with steep slopes.

We start the hike early in the morning hours which takes 2 – 3 hours to reach the plateau from where the technical portion of the climb starts, everyone will be equipped with safety gear, cross the pipe portion and then climb the rock cut stairs, one more exposed patch which will lead to the balekilla of the fort. During descent, there will be a rappelling till the plateau from the pipe section.

Malangad has a rich historical significance and is known for its ruins of an ancient fort at the summit. The fort was built during the reign of the Maratha Empire in the 17th century and was used as a strategic location for keeping watch over the surrounding areas.

The fort has seen many battles and was captured by various rulers throughout history. It was also used as a place of refuge by the Maratha ruler, Shivaji Maharaj, during his campaigns against the Mughals.

In addition to its historical significance, Malangad is also known for its religious significance. The Haji Malang Dargah, a shrine dedicated to the Sufi saint Haji Malang, is located at the top of the mountain and is visited by many devotees each year.

Reporting at Kalyan Railway station – 7:30AM

Travel by hired vehicle from Kalyan Railway Station to Shree Malangad Parking – 45 min.

Introduction & Event Briefing – 30 minutes.

Ascent hike to sonmachi – 3 hours approx.

Technical briefing – 15 minutes.

Climb the Shri Malangad till the top.

Relax at the summit.

Climb down and rappelling to Sonmachi.

Descent hike to Shree Malangad Parking – 2 hours approx.

Travel by hired vehicle from base to Kalyan Railway Station – 1 hour approx.

Day concludes with thrilling memories.
