Rohida Fort, also known as Vichitragad Fort, is a historical fort located in the Bhor region of the Sahyadri mountain range in Maharashtra, India. The exact date of construction of the fort is not known, but it is believed to have been built during the Yadava dynasty in the 12th century. The fort was later conquered by the Bahamani Sultanate in the 14th century and was subsequently taken over by the Adil Shahi dynasty.
The fort was captured by the Maratha warrior Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century and was later ruled by his son, Sambhaji Maharaj. The fort was an important stronghold for the Marathas and was used to defend the region against the invading Mughal army.
In 1818, the fort was captured by the British army during the Third Anglo-Maratha War and was subsequently abandoned. Today, the fort is a popular destination for trekkers and hikers and is maintained by the Maharashtra government.
The fort has several important structures, including a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and a water tank. The fort also has a natural cave, which is believed to have been used as a hideout by Shivaji Maharaj during battles.
In this night trek we start at the base village of Bajarwadi that involves a gradual ascent through a rocky terrain. Rest at the temple till early morning hours, The trail offers scenic views of the surrounding hills and valleys from each and every Bastion, and the fort itself is a great place to catch the sunrise.
