PARVAT BUDDIES: Trek to Prabalgad on 16th – 17th Dec 2022 (Fri-Sat).
Some Info about the place:
PRABALGAD (740m/2428ft) as the name suggests, is a mighty hill fort located in the Matheran Mountain range. It has got a beautiful dense jungle on its flat top just like Matheran and hence also considered to be a cousin of Matheran. In fact, when the Britishers discovered Matheran as a hill station, they explored the possibility of developing Prabalgad as a hill station too, but supposedly dropped the idea because of shortage of water here.
A couple of water cisterns, bastions and a few ruined fort walls and entrances are what remain of the original fort. From the top, one is blessed with wonderful views of the entire Matheran range especially the famous rock steps of Kalavantini Pinnacle to the North which is a treat to watch. On the south, one can witness a grand view of Irshalgad with Morbe dam in its backdrop. Manekgad and Karnala are other peaks which can also be seen from the top of this fort.
Our Plan:
We plan to trek up Prabalmachi on Friday night and camp there. Next day, after breakfast we shall be ascending the fort from its northern end traversing its forested top to reach the southern end and if feasible explore an old forgotten route for descending thus giving you a thrilling offbeat experience. The trek is going to be lengthy requiring high endurance.
Grade: Moderate-Difficult.
Endurance: High.
Approx Trek Distance: 15 kms.
Suitability:
This trek is suitable for people with good fitness levels and prior trekking experience.
(Not recommended for kids & complete beginners)
