One Day Trek to Umberkhind

Located near Lonavala, Umberkhind is not just a scenic forest trail but a walk through a significant chapter of Maratha history. It was here, in 1661, that Shivaji Maharaj and his forces defeated the Mughals led by Kartalab Khan using guerrilla warfare tactics, despite being vastly outnumbered. The pass lies deep within the Sahyadri forest near Kurvande village, and the trail offers a mix of historical immersion and natural beauty. Surrounded by thick foliage, gurgling streams, and hills echoing with legend, this trek brings alive tales of valor and strategic brilliance. The terrain is moderate and makes for an excellent one-day adventure from Pune, especially in the post-monsoon season.
