About One Tree Hill :

Matheran at 800 m (2,625 ft) is a popular hill station, accessible by road and train. It was discovered by Hugh Malet in 1850 and is around 100 km from Mumbai. Matheran is a protected forest area where only emergency vehicles are allowed inside its limits. Main mode of transport is hand-pulled rickshaws and horses. British-style architecture has been preserved in Matheran and most structures are now heritage structures. Matheran has been declared an eco-sensitive region by the Union Environment Ministry (GoI) and is home to diverse flora and fauna. There are also several rare species like the Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, White-Rumped Shama, Brown Wood Owl, South Indian Tree Shrew, and The Giant Squirrel.

The trail to One tree hill from Ambewadi is also called the Shivaji ladder route. Midway through the trail near the end of the thick forest, you come across a mass of boulders and rocks into which the trail disappears. This is known as Shivaji Steps or the Shivaji Ladder. According to local legend, Shivaji rode up this route on horseback. From here, it’s 500m to the top, up a stream bed that’s dry except during the monsoon.

Meeting Point : Sunday, 1.30 am at Karjat Railway Station.

Itinerary :

1.30 am Meet-up, have a quick introduction round & start the journey towards Ambewadi village in a private rented vehicle.

2.30 am Reach base village Ambewadi & start the trek to one tree hill point of Matheran.

During this night journey, enjoy the jungle trail, listen to the silence in nature’s lap, take ample halts in between to enjoy energy bars & packed juices/drinks we will be carrying.

5.30 am reach the top & take rest for a while. Settle down & wait for the sun to rise, click reels & selfies. Let the photographer inside u take the charge. If not, just sit & capture the moments in ur heart.

Till da sky becomes orange, our local guide will make tea & instant noodles for u. Enjoy the pahadi Magi with view & raise a toast of tea for the beautiful journey.

7.30 am Post sunrise, enjoying mountain maggie & after clicking loads of pics, we will move towards dasturi naka in Matheran.

08.30 am On reaching taxi stand of Dasturi naka, scroll down till Neral station by the private rented vehicle.

9.00 am reach Neral stn, freshen-up & have a breakfast at local joint wid cup of tea

9.45 am commence return journey by train

– Winter wears, sweaters, monkey cap etc.
– Cap, sunglasses, sunscreen lotion etc.
– Some ready to eat food like- plum cakes, fruits, chocolates, biscuits, etc
– Camera, power bank etc (Optional)
– 1 packet of electrol/ enerzal/ glucon-D
– Medications if required for individual
– A haversack to put all the things in, please do not carry sling bags, trolly bags or jholas

7. Floaters and Sandals are not allowed, please wear sports shoes or trekking shoes of good quality
