Kohoj fort hike

Embark on a day hike to Kohoj fort situated in the Palghar region, renowned for its distinctive rock formation resembling a human figurine at the summit. Limited historical records exist about this fort, which was seized by the Portuguese in the 16th Century. They erected fortifications and bastions on its grounds. Subsequently, the fort was conquered by the Peshwas in 1737 and later came under British control.

During this event, we will travel by a hired vehicle from Palghar railway station to Vagothe. After the event briefing and introductions, we will begin the Hike from the shores of Shelke Lake, traversing through dense forest areas to reach the summit where the temple of Lord Shiva is located. The journey to the fort’s peak involves passing through the remnants of its fortifications.

Reporting time at Palghar railway station 07:45 AM (Take 05:52 AM Mumbai Central – Dahanu Road Fast local train in western line)

Breakfast at Palghar – 30 minutes.

Transport by hired vehicle to the base village – 1 hour approx.

Event briefing and introduction – 15 minutes approx.

Ascend hike to the Kohoj fort – 3 hours approx.

Explore the fort – 45 minutes.

Descend to the base – 2 hours approx.

Relax at the lake – 30 minutes.

Lunch at the base village.

Return journey to Palghar railway station by hired vehicle – 1 hour approx.

Day concludes with good memories.
