Chadar Trek is well known for being a unique winter journey through Ladakh. It can be termed “Khado Sanglam” by Zanskari vocabulary. It travels through the actual route (Dakini Path) which the people of valley use as the last resort to connect to the outside world when
there is no link for several weeks at this time of year because of heavy snowfall.
Chadar Trek is a valley trek and hence doesn’t take much toll on your legs but the difficult part is the temperature. Day temperatures in Leh and while on trek are sub-zero and usually around -5 degrees. The temperatures during night falls drastically to -25 degrees. The ultimate challenge is to keep yourself focussed in completing the challenge.

Stay: Guest house, Camping.
Day 1 – Jan 16: Report at Leh. Acclimatize and Overnight at Guest House.
Day 2 – Jan 17: Rest and Acclimatization at Leh. Preparations for the Trek – Briefing / Purchase of Gears.
Day 3 – Jan 18: Rest and Acclimatization at Leh. Workshops on Trek & Camp Best Practices. Medical check-up and final briefing before kick-off.
Day 4 – Jan 19: Morning Drive to Shingra Yokma [3 to 4 hours]. Trek from Shingra Yokma Camp to Tsomo Camp [9 km / 6 hours].
Day 5 – Jan 20: Trek from Tsomo to Yokma Do Camp [10 km / 7-8 hours].
Day 6 – Jan 21: Trek from Yokma Do to Neyrak Campsite [5 km / 3 hours]. Hike and Visit Neyrak Waterfalls [3 to 4 hours to and fro].
Day 7 – Jan 22: Trek from Neyrak to Hotong / Interim Camp [13 km / 7-8 hours].
Day 8 – Jan 23: Morning Trek from Hotong / Interim Camp to Roadhead [10 km / 7-8 hours] and drive back to Leh.
Day 9 – Jan 24: Return from Leh.
Inclusions:
1. Accommodation in Leh Stays in Guest Houses on sharing basis in Leh on Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and Day 8.
2. Breakfast when in Leh on Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, and Day 9 Breakfast only.
3. All meals included on the trek, Veg only (Breakfast/Lunch/Evening Snacks/Dinner) starting on Day 4 Lunch to Day 8 Dinner.
4. Transportation from Leh to Trekking Point on Day 4 and Trekking Point to Leh on Day 8.
5. Hot water in buckets shall be provided on request while staying in Guest House in Leh.
6. Stay in Alpine/Dome Tents on Double/Triple sharing the basis on Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, and Day 7.
7. Kitchen, Dining and Toilet tents will be used during the trek.
8. Cooks/Helper and other requisite staff.
9. Experienced trek leader who has ample knowledge of the route.
10. Porters for carrying common equipment’s (like rations/tents/utensils/groceries).
11. Equipment – Tents on triple & quad sharing basis / Sleeping bags / Sleeping Mats.
12. Basic First aid Kit with a portable oxygen cylinder.
13. The Facility of keeping extra luggage at Leh when leaving for the trek.
14. The total trek expenses does not comprise of the GST charges (5%).
Exclusions:
1. Personal essentials –
(i) Equipments – Gumboots, trekking poles, etc
(ii) Insurance – Personal and travel insurances.
(iii) Beverages – Distilled water bottles/bottled or canned beverages.
(iv) Snacks – Chocolates, dry fruits, protein or nutrition bar, and other energy products.
2. Services for Luggage offloading or Personal Potters for carrying bag up to 10 KGs only from Day 4 to Day 8 will be additional & borne by the guest only.
3. Room Heaters at Guest House in Leh (We advise you against using the room heaters as they will dehydrate your body and you will be unable to adjust to the new atmosphere.)
4. Expenses of the transport, meals and accommodation will be covered if in instance you leave the trek in between and return to Leh before the planned arrival on Day
5. Fees – Permit/Wildlife fee/ALTOA fee/Insurance(total cost is approx 5000 per pax).
6. If by any chance your trek remains incomplete or you fail to start the trek because of “force majeure”, medical emergency or by personal choice after you arrive at the starting point, you will not be able to get a refund, reschedule or replace any services that remain unutilized by you.
7. Any additional cost incurred due to do changes in Government Guidelines related to travel/trek/COVID-19 will be borne by the Guest.
8. Anything which is not included in Inclusion.
Things to Get:
1. Backpack (55 – 65 L) with sturdy and comfortable shoulder straps and supporting frame. Add-on poncho can be considered to keep it dry.
2. Rubber Gum Boots x 1 Pair (to be purchased in Leh that costs around Rs. 400 apair).
3. Trekking shoes. Most people complete major part of the trek in Gum Boots. If you’re
not comfortable in Gum Boots, you will need a trekking shoe pair that has good grip, waterproofing and ankle support. However, for ones choosing gum boots, you may bring additional light weight shoes with good grip for emergency / alternate use.
4. 2 x waterproof track-pants. Track-pants are light, plus when things get cold you can wear one over the other. DO NOT bring Jeans, Shorts, Capris, etc.
5. 3 x cotton t-shirts – full sleeves preferred.
6. 1 x Fleece jacket; a woolen sweater would be an alternative.
7. 1 x Wind-proof jacket.
8. 1 x Down / Feather / Heavy jacket.
9. 2 pairs x thermal inner.
10. 3 pairs x sports socks and 3 pairs x woolen socks.
11. Woolen monkey cap / balaclava that covers the ear.
12. 2 pairs x woolen gloves and 1 pair of synthetic gloves (water proof).
13. Sun Cap and Sun-glasses which cover your eyes well.
14. People who wear spectacles, choose one of these:
a) Use contact lenses.
b) Photo-chromatic glasses
c) If either of the above is not possible, wear your spectacles and carry a big sunglass
that can be worn over your spectacles.
15. Towel (Thin, quick drying type).
16. Cold cream and sun screen lotion (SPF 40+) and one Lip-balm.
17. 2 x Thermous bottles (1 L each).
18. Torch with extra set of cells (head lamps preferable).
19. Personal toilet kit (minimal) and toilet paper.
FAQ
1. To where and when should we reach and also return?
A. You should reach Leh Airport by Jan 12th morning or before noon. As its season in Leh, ticket rates may be high from Kerala but will get reasonable rate from Bangalore Airport.
2. Do I need to be highly fit for this trip?
A. There is no high altitude issues in this trip but you have to manage survival in very low cold climate.
3. Do we need to carry our bags everywhere?
A. Yes, You have to carry your bags everywhere
4. Do I need to carry any blankets?
A. No. The campsite will provide pillows, blankets and other necessities for the stay
5. After payment, if I cancel the trip, will I get a refund?
A. It’s strictly as per cancellation policy which is written below. So please read it before making any payment after registration
6. What if I couldnt complete the trek and coming back to Leh earlier than the expected arrival? Will Appooppanthaadi met my expenses for the extra stay and food?
A. No. If anyone is off the itinerary, from that day onwards the expenses are their own
7. What if the trek get cancelled or postponed due to bad weather or any Leh administration regulations, will Appooppanthaadi met our expenses for the extra stay and food?
A. No. You have to pay your own expenses
Cancellation policy

1. For cancellations done prior to the 30 days or more of the date of departure, initial deposit amount or 25% of the tour cost will be charged as cancellation charges.
2. For cancellations done between 29 days to 15 days prior to the date of departure, 50% of the tour cost will be charged as cancellation charges.
3. For cancellations done between 14 days to 8 days of the tour, 75% of the tour cost will be charged as cancellation charges.
4. For cancellations done within 8 days of the tour, 100% cancellation charges will apply and you will receive no refunds.
5. No refund of money is admissible on cancellations due to any type of contingencies or unforeseen circumstances including, but not limited to natural calamities, lockdowns, any covid induced scenarios or otherwise
