Butterfly camp at Garo Hills, Meghalaya

Meghalaya is situated in the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot. The Balpakram Baghmara Landscape of the South Garo Hills includes Balpakram National Park, Siju Wildlife Sanctuary, Baghmara Reserve Forest and community owned land which totals an area of 600 sq. km. The South Garo Hills is extremely rich in biodiversity, offering tremendous opportunities to experience breathtaking flora and fauna. The landscape is extremely rich in butterfly diversity with an excess of 350 species, which includes some of the rarest butterflies in the country. Some of the charismatic species of butterflies the Kohinoor, Yellow Gorgon, Western Jungle Queen, and Marble Map are found here. Besides butterflies the landscape is also home to 85 mammal species including the Hoolock Gibbon, Asian Elephant, Stumped-tail Macaque, Capped Langur, Himalayan Black Bear, and Clouded Leopard. Among the region’s flora the Pitcher Plant and Sun Dew, two carnivorous plants and a host of orchid species are found here.
Camp fees: Rs. 39,975/- BNHS members and Rs. 41,475/- others (ex-Guwahati).
Cost includes: Accommodation on twin sharing at homestays, meals (B/L/D), travel from and to Guwahati, permits, and entry to park.
Cost excludes: Flight/rail tickets, all expenses of personal nature like laundry, tips, beverages, camera fees, any cost not specified above.
Reporting: Pick up from Mayur Hotel near Guwahati railway station at 08:00 a.m. on 29th April and drop to Guwahati at 7:30 p.m. on the last day.
*Participants are advised to book tickets to Guwahati a day prior and a day later.
