BHIMASHANKAR TREK – 9th & 10th July 2022

Bhimashankar is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India, a pilgrimage place approximately 3500 feet high up in the hills. The area around Bhimashankar is covered with thick dense jungle. The Maharashtra Government has also declared it a Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is small (only about 100 sq. km’s), but it is home to a wide variety of animals Leopard, Sambar, Barking deer, Porcupines, Grey Junglefowls, Wild pig, lanuman langur, Rhesus macaque and Flying Squirrel etc. The sanctuary is famous as the home of a highly endangered subspecies of the Indian Giant Squirrel – Shekharu (Ratufa indica elphistoni), which is also the state animal of Maharashtra.

Meeting point: CST Station 05:45 AM
Catch Karjat Fast local from CST
08:00 AM: Karjat
08:10 AM: Breakfast
08:50 AM: Leave for Khandas by local transport
09:50 AM: Reach Khandas (Base Village)
10:00 AM: Start the trek
Lunch on the way (Participants NEED TO CARRY LUNCH)
04:00 PM: Reach top
Free time, Dinner, Overnight Stay

04:30 AM: Wakeup call
05:00 AM: Attend aarti at temple (optional)
07:00 AM: Move to Gupt Bhimashankar
09:00 AM: Breakfast
10:30 AM: Start Descend via Ganesh ghat
03:30 PM: Lunch enroute
05:30 PM: At Karjat station
06:30 PM: Proceed to Mumbai

* Torch with Extra batteries compulsory
