DOS and don’ts
worth doing
- Before starting the Bhimashankar pilgrimage, pay obeisance to your family deity (Kul Daivat).
- Book your travel tickets and accommodation for Bhimashankar in advance.
- Take a bath and wear clean clothes before entering the temple.
- Meditate on Lord Shiva inside the temple.
- Maintain complete silence inside the temple and chant “Om Namah Shivaya”.
- Respect the ancient customs and beliefs while in Bhimashankar.
- Respect the religious sentiments of fellow pilgrims.
- Follow the temple procedures and wait for the opportunity to have darshan of the Lord.
What not to do
- Avoid carrying too much jewellery and cash when you visit the temple.
- Do not wear shoes or slippers in and around the temple premises.
- Do not prostrate yourself in the temple.
- Do not throw Prasad and Tirtha in the temple premises.
- Do not eat meat or consume alcohol or other intoxicants within the temple premises.
- Do not wear any headguards like helmets and caps inside the temple premises.
- Do not commit any act of violence or cruelty in the temple premises.
- Don’t rush for darshan. Wait for your chance.
- Do not encourage beggars.
- Do not spit or create disturbance in the temple premises.
- Do not carry any weapons into the temple premises.
