he said that we will have to walk atleast 4 kms to reach Ankai Village , Now this was a good news ..4 kms we said thank you chalne hi toh aaye hai and saying this we all started walking back toward the Manmad side with the Ankai Fort perched on the right hand side of the treks. Ankai village is a small village.There was shop in the village where one can buy chips etc. We filled up our bottles with water from the Village well and started our trek.We had lunch outside the Manmad station, Boarded the first train , fighting the sea of people we managed to get into the train. We all got the place to sit at nasik till that time it was balle balle at the door.It was 7.00pm when we touched Dadar. All in all it was a fantastic trek with some great friends.

As decided we meet up at Lokmaniya Tilak Terminus (LTT) to board the Hatia Lokmaniya Tilak Express. The superfast express train departs from LTT at 00:15 AM. We were to alight at Manmad Junction at 04:27 AM.
Tilak Nagar is the next stop after Kurla. LTT is located at a distance of 15 minutes (walking) from Tilak Nagar station. I managed to reach LTT at 11:57 PM. The train reached Manmad at 04:55 AM. Now we had to board a connecting train to take us to Ankai Killa station.
The bus started on time and by 06:45 AM, from platform no. 1 at Manmad ST bus stand and were alighted at the Ankai Killa Railway Station . We first boarded the RBL-PBH-LTT Express, as it arrived the moment we stepped on the platform. Later at Igatpuri we swapped trains. We boarded the Geetanjali Express.

The nearest town is Manmad which is 97 kilometers from Nashik. The base village of the fort is Ankai which is 10 kilometers from Manmad. There are three routes to reach Ankai from Nashik. The shortest and safest is via Manmad, the other two are via Vinchur-Lasalgaon-Patoda (85 km) and via Yeola (108 km). There are hotels in Manmad, and tea and snacks are also available in small eateries on the highway. The Ankai railway station is quite close to the village. Local passenger trains passing on the Manmad-Nizamabad route stop at the railway station. The trekking path starts from the hillock north of the Ankai village. The route is free from obstruction and is safe and wide with regular steps to the fort. It takes about half an hour to reach the entrance gate of the fort. It takes about 3 hours to see both the forts. It is advisable to first visit the Ankai fort in the early hours of the morning and complete the Tankai fort before noon.

अंकाई किला पश्चिमी भारत में सतमाला रेंज की पहाड़ियों में पाया जाने वाला एक ऐतिहासिक स्थल है । [1] [2] यह महाराष्ट्र राज्य में नासिक जिले के येओला तालुका में स्थित है । इस किले का निर्माण देवगिरि के यादवों ने करवाया था। भौगोलिक दृष्टि से यह मनमाड के निकट है । अंकाई किला और टैंकाई किला निकटवर्ती पहाड़ियों पर दो अलग-अलग किले हैं। दोनों को सुरक्षित करने के लिए एक साझा किलेबंदी का निर्माण किया गया है। अंकाई किला एक पहाड़ी पर स्थित है, जिसके पूर्वी हिस्से में एक संकीर्ण नाक को छोड़कर, सभी तरफ लंबवत ढलानें हैं।

जैन गुफाएँ किले की तलहटी में स्थित हैं, जो दो स्तरों तक फैली हुई हैं। निचले स्तर पर दो गुफाएँ हैं, जिनमें से किसी में भी मूर्तियाँ नहीं हैं। ऊपरी स्तर पर, पाँच गुफाएँ हैं जिनमें महावीर की मूर्तियाँ अच्छी स्थिति में हैं। बर्बरता से बचने के लिए रात में उन्हें ताले और चाबी से सुरक्षित रखा जाता है। मुख्य गुफा में यक्ष , इंद्राणी , कमल और भगवान महावीर की नक्काशी है । किले के आधार पर स्थित किला दर्शाता है कि अंकाई का निर्माण लगभग 1000 साल पहले किया गया था। इस किले का निर्माण देवगिरि के यादवों ने करवाया था । शाहजहाँ के जनरल खान खानान के नेतृत्व में मुगलों ने किले के कमांडर को रिश्वत देकर 1635 में इस किले पर कब्जा कर लिया। 1665 में, थेवेनोट ने इन किलों का उल्लेख सूरत और औरंगाबाद शहरों के बीच यात्रा के एक मंच के रूप में किया है । [
अंततः अंकाई पर मुगलों ने कब्ज़ा कर लिया। 1752 में भालकी की संधि के बाद किला मराठा साम्राज्य के नियंत्रण में आ गया। बाद में 1818 में इस पर अंग्रेजों ने कब्ज़ा कर लिया ।
